Celebrating a Milestone: 500 Submissions and Counting at the Journal of Community Safety and Well-Being!

At SG Publishing, we believe that community-focused research should be accessible to all without paywalls for readers and without author fees, a true Diamond Open Access model. That’s why today, we are thrilled to celebrate this milestone, recognizing that the Journal of Community Safety and Well-Being (JCSWB) just received its 500th submission.

A Journal That Started with Access and Collaboration

Launched in 2016 by the Community Safety Knowledge Alliance (CSKA), JCSWB has always been more than just a journal focused on community safety and well-being (CSWB). It’s a platform for change, a bridge between policy and practice, and a space where lived experience, frontline voices, and scholarly research intersect. From the outset, the journal was committed to publishing under the Diamond Open Access model, ensuring no fees to authors or readers.

That commitment has never wavered.

500 Submissions, Countless Contributions

Reaching 500 submissions!

It represents:

  • Hundreds of authors, peer reviewers, and editors working collaboratively
  • A growing global readership that spans disciplines, geographies, and sectors
  • Deep trust from the community, safety, mental health, and well-being ecosystem

Each submission has played a crucial role in building content that is not only timely, relevant, and transformative but also directly impacts our community’s safety and well-being. And perhaps most importantly, it is accessible to all, fulfilling our vision of community-focused research.

Looking Ahead to 10 Years Strong

As we approach JCSWB’s 10th anniversary in 2026, we can’t help but reflect on the journal’s evolution:

  • From a bold new idea to a globally respected publication
  • From a Canadian focus to a platform with international reach and relevance
  • From an emerging voice to a recognized leader in community safety discourse

We are thrilled about the potential of receiving another 500 submissions, especially as JCSWB continues to publish special issues, engage in multi-sector dialogue, and support new voices in the field.

With Deep Gratitude

We offer our sincere appreciation and gratitude to our mission supporter, Niche Technology, whose steadfast support has helped make the journal’s Diamond Open Access model a reality.

This journey would also not have been possible without our committed affiliated partners, Canadian Police Knowledge Network, Global Law Enforcement & Public Health Association, the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police, and Wilfrid Laurier University, who continue to help broaden the journal’s reach and relevance.

Together, you’ve helped create a space where significant work is not just published, but it is shared.

Thankful for our Contributing Community

SG Publishing, along with the Journal’s Editor-in-Chief, Norm Taylor, Senior Contributing Editor, Matt Torigian, and the entire Journal team celebrates with every author who submitted a paper, every reviewer who offered feedback, and the members of our Contributing Editor Community who stewarded the process. We also extend our gratitude to every reader who engaged with the work.

Your collective commitment fuels this mission, and we are thankful for your contributions.
